Elizabeth M. (Sissy) Doddy, 55 of Lehighton, passed away after a brave fight against cancer on Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. She was surrounded by her family.
Born on August 30, 1953, in Fountain Hill, she was a daughter of Elizabeth (Sopko) Fody of Oriskany Falls, N.Y. and the late David Fody. She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Parish, Berlinsville.
Sissy was a well-known artist. She worked in a variety of mediums throughout the years. Her murals were featured at Musikfest in 1988 in the Muralplatz. In 1991, she earned acclaim for showing at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City and was featured in the December issue of Tole World Magazine. She had several exhibits at Northampton Community college and in 1994, Sissy presented her Irish Drums exhibit at the Weller Center.
Prior to showing her artwork fulltime, she was the executive secretary to the Vice President of St. Lukes Hospital, leaving in 1980 to raise a family and concentrate on her life's work.
In addition to her mother, Elizabeth, Sissy leaves behind her beloved family: daughter, Marcelle and her husband Christopher Deppe; brother David Fody; sisters, Kathleen Pysher and her husband Jerry; Susan Aardron and her husband Michael; and Kelly Fody; grandsons, Sean and Julian; granddaughter, Margot; nieces, nephews and their families and devoted friends, Christopher and Terri Doddy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 in St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Route 946, Berlinsville. In lieu of flowers, it was Sissy's wish that a trust fund be established for the Doddy grandchildren. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Wachovia Bank, Bath Branch, 107 E.
